Guide to Packing the Perfect Hospital Bag for Labor & Delivery
As a luxury mom-to-be, I began my journey of packing the perfect hospital bag by investing in the Kindred Bravely Ultimate Hospital Go Bag Bundle and the Frida Mom Postpartum Recovery Essentials Kit. The Kindred Bravely bundle was a fantastic starting point, providing a stylish and well-organized bag with all the essentials for labor and postpartum comfort. It perfectly complemented my sense of luxury and organization.
Additionally, the Frida Mom Postpartum Recovery Essentials Kit is a true game-changer. This thoughtfully curated kit includes everything I need to make my postpartum recovery as comfortable as possible, from soothing witch hazel pads to disposable underwear. As a mom, I appreciate the attention to detail and quality that both of these sets offer, ensuring that my experience from labor to postpartum recovery is both luxurious and stress-free. These essentials have become invaluable additions to my hospital bag.
Be sure to download our hospital bag checklist at the bottom of the page!
1. Essentials:
Medical paperwork: This includes your ID, insurance information, and any birth plan or hospital registration forms.
Comfortable clothing: Loose-fitting pajamas or nightgowns, a robe, and non-slip socks or slippers. Don't forget a special outfit for the baby’s first photo! I swear I lived in the Kindred Bravely Hospital gown for a week postpartum.
Toiletries: Basics like toothbrush, toothpaste, face wash, and moisturizer. Luxe touch: A rejuvenating facial mist or mask.
Glasses/Contact lenses: With their cases and solution!
2. For Labor:
Snacks: Some light, indulgent treats for energy.
iPad: For those of us who had to go through induction, it can be quite some time before you are in active labor. I watched quite a few episodes of Housewives before contractions started.
Birth ball: Check if your hospital provides one—most do! I didn’t need to bring one to either birth.
Massage oil or lotion: A fragrant one can be so soothing. This is not my cup of tea, but essential oils are a big hit when it comes to birthing.
Music or relaxation app: Your special labor playlist or a meditation app. *Cue the Push It Playlist*
3. Postpartum:
Nursing essentials: Bra, pads, and nipple cream for breastfeeding moms. Lactation Consultants will usually make their way
Comfort items: Postpartum underwear, plush blanket, or throw.
4. For Baby:
Clothing: Onesies in different sizes, mittens, and hats. I recommend an outfit in each size, Preemie, Newborn and 0-3 month. We thought our firstborn would fit great in newborn and they were swimming on him!
Comfort: Soft, personalized baby blanket for those cute swaddle onesies!
Luxe touch: Premium baby lotion! Check out Pipette or Tubby Todd.
5. Just For You:
Decadent snacks: Gourmet chocolates, deluxe nuts, Oreo’s, Doritos, whatever suits your style.
Entertainment: Tablet with favorite movies, shows, or books.
Relaxation: High-end aromatherapy diffuser or rollerball if these are your must haves.
6. Extras:
Phone charger: An extra-long cord is ideal necessary.
Camera: Capture those first precious moments.
Comfort: Your luxurious pillow from home. I did this with my second but not my first and it is a total game changer.
Gratitude: Thank you cards or gifts for the caring staff.
7. For Your Spouse or Partner:
Clothing: Change of clothes, pajamas, or a comfy sweater.
Toiletries: A basic freshen-up kit.
Sustenance: Protein bars, sandwiches, bottled water.
Entertainment: A good book, magazine, or tablet.
Essentials: Cash and coins, contact list.
Luxe touch: A premium pillow for better rest.
Support: Massaging tools or a comforting phrases list.
Special Tip Pack a separate empty bag or section within your hospital bag for your baby's essentials from the hospital. Most hospitals do provide wipes, diapers, and formula if desired. I 10/10 recommend bringing an empty bag to take home all of the baby goodies stocked in your room! We cleared out all the diapers, wipes, blankets, formula, etc. from our room. Might as well since you are paying for it via insurance.
Remember, every mom's journey is unique. Feel free to adjust this list according to your desires and requirements. The goal is to ensure that you, your partner, and the new baby are as comfortable and pampered as possible during this special time.
Wishing your growing family the most joyous and smooth birthing experience!
